Swamp, Bog, Mire, and Marsh

I was surprised to find that so many nature-related words in GRE vocabulary can be used metaphorically to describe all sorts of human experiences, even though I’d assumed they were rarely used in everyday life. After repeatedly coming across words associated with mud and misery, curiosity got the better of me, and I started looking up what they actually meant.

I’m not usually a geology person, but here’s a little 10-second trivia I thought I’d share: what’s the difference between a swamp, a bog, a mire, and a marsh?
